Combat & Disciplines

Steel and spell, one hand

There is no class to choose. Every Warden trains five years at Hallowmere in steel and in spell, and switches between Warrior and Mage with a single key — at any moment, mid-fight, without breaking stride.

No class lock

Character creation is about who you are, not what you fight with. Both disciplines are open to everyone from the start.

Q

One key, any moment

Press the switch key and your stance, weapon and ability bar change in one motion. No menu, no cast time, no waiting.

The fun is the mix

Each discipline is strong alone. Together they open combos neither can do by itself — that is where mastery lives.

The Switch

Open with a spell. Finish with steel.

One fight, four beats. Watch how a single key turns a Mage's opening into a Warrior's finish — and back again.

A Mage pours a torrent of flame across the ground
A Warrior dashes forward, blade shedding sparks
A Warrior drives a piercing strike into an enemy
A Mage calls down lightning from a dark thundercloud
Mage discipline

1. Open with a spell

From range, pour fire into the pack. Enemies scatter or burn.

The switch key is shown as Q here. Every key can be rebound.

Discipline

The Warrior

Heavy weapons, heavy armour and nerve. The Warrior fights where the danger is thickest.

Warriors hold the front line, break guards and punish enemies who get too close. Every swing has weight, and good footwork turns a crowd into a queue. The Blessing makes a Warden stronger and harder to kill than any soldier.

Example abilities

Area · Stagger

Earthbreaker

Leap into the air and slam down, cracking the ground and staggering everything nearby.

Gap closer

Lunging Thrust

A long lunge that covers ground fast and punishes enemies who try to retreat.

Combo finisher

Crescent Cut

A turning slash that hits all around you. Deals extra damage at the end of a combo.

Defence · Counter

Riposte

Raise your guard for a moment. Parry a blow and answer with a free strike.

A Mage sends a fan of fire raking across the ground
Discipline

The Mage

Fire, frost and storm. The Mage decides where the fight happens.

Mages control the field from range: walls of ice to cut off a charge, fire to punish a crowd, lightning to finish what is left. Positioning is everything. Honest magic comes from your own strength: cast too much and you tire. Be wary of anyone who never does.

Example abilities

Fire · Channel

Emberstream

Pour a steady torrent of flame in front of you. Burning enemies take more damage from steel.

Frost · Area

Frost Nova

Freeze the ground around you in a burst of ice spikes, slowing everything inside the ring.

Frost · Barrier

Rime Wall

Raise a wall of ice that blocks projectiles and charges. Heavy weapons can break it.

Storm · Ultimate

Stormcall

Gather a thundercloud overhead. Lightning strikes the ground around you until it breaks.

Arcane · Shield

Glass Ward

A shell of clear light absorbs damage, then shatters outward when it breaks.

Storm · Projectile

Void Orb

Hurl a slow sphere of crackling storm energy that arcs to anything it passes.

Combos

Better together

A few of the combinations our testers keep coming back to. There are many more to find.

Mage → Warrior

Freeze and shatter

Frost Nova to pin a group in place, switch, then Crescent Cut through the frozen ring.

Warrior → Mage

Parry and punish

Riposte a heavy blow, step back as you switch, and bring down Stormcall while they stagger.

Mage → Warrior → Mage

Wall and hammer

Cut off a charge with Rime Wall, switch for an Earthbreaker on the other side, then switch back to Emberstream.

Character Model

One character. Both disciplines.

This is our first character model, in progress. Turn it around the way you will turn the camera in game.

Because there are no classes, a character is never built around one weapon. Armour, robes and weapons layer onto the same body, and the switch key swaps what you are holding and how you stand.

Work in progress — base model shown without discipline gear.
